American Choppers y la estatua de la libertad

0 comentarios
The Statue of Liberty turned 124 on Thursday, and her birthday present was a custom-made motorcycle from Orange County Choppers.
The Liberty Bike, which was featured on an early episode of "American Chopper," is covered in shiny copper that was left over during the statue’s centennial restoration in 1986.
Thursday marked the first time that the bike has traveled to Liberty Island to be united with the statue.

Paul Teutul Sr., founder of the Orange County Choppers, was on hand to ride the bike from the ferry over to a display case for a brief ceremony.
"Presenting the Liberty Bike to display…near the Statue of Liberty is a huge honor for us," Teutul said in a statement. "We couldn’t imagine a better place for the bike."

The motorcycle was commissioned by the Gold Leaf Corporation in 2004 and took four and a half weeks to complete.
In addition to the copper plating, the Liberty Bike includes several other features inspired by Lady Liberty. The bike's shift lever comes from a cable that once carried electricity to the statue’s torch, and in another reference to the torch, the bike’s carburetor lights up when the engine is running. Also, the detailing includes spiky designs similar to Lady Liberty’s crown.
"It’s very awesome up close," said Peg Zitko, a vice president of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. "It’s a beautiful piece."

This isn’t the Orange County Choppers’ only New York-themed bike. The shop has also created a New York Jets Bike and a Fire Bike, which was modeled on a fire engine and dedicated to the memory of the 343 FDNY members killed on 9/11.
The Liberty Bike will be on display on Liberty Island for the next two years, and then it will go on a national tour, Zitko said.

2011 Star Stryker First Ride

0 comentarios
Fall may signal the end of summer, but it also signals the beginning of press launch season. Woke up at the Driskill Hotel in downtown Austin last week with riding on my mind. Went outside where a row of raked-out cruisers with custom-painted tanks and low-slung saddles awaited. The motorcycle’s back-to-front symmetry leaves a positive initial impression. Low and wide out back, the 2011Star Stryker gradually gets taller as you scan forward, the bars mounted on its raised steering head punching out rider’s arms almost horizontally before the fork drops off at a heavy 40-degree rake angle. The 21-inch tall front hoop balances out the 210mm-wide rear tire. We fire them up with the effortless thumb of an electric starter. The 60-degree V-Twin vibrates sedately at idle as dual crankshaft balancers work their vibration-quelling magic. The mill sits ready for a solid twist of the right wrist to activate the flow from its dual 40mm throttle bodies. Heading down Sixth Street, another motojournalist takes the opportunity to be the first to light up the tires. Right in front of Austin PD. Fortunately, the officer was in the middle of writing a ticket and we were able to embark without incident on a 125-mile first ride on the 2011 Stryker through the Texas Hill Country.

Carl Brouhard's name is synonymous with style. Whether it be at the Bonneville Salt Flats on the world's fasted bagger, aboard a twin-turbo pro street chopper, or riding this here nuevo boardtracker, his design essence wreaks biker panache.

The design of the Brouhard Boardtracker is a nod to the past with an eye towards the future.
Though the frame and springer do look like a blast from the past, it is the sheetmetal that really cements the bike's look. Both the one-off custom-fabbed gas tank and rear fender/fender-mount were commissioned via Fat Katz just for this bike. Though the oil tank cannot be seen, it is an 8-ball Manufacturing unit that is slyly hidden under the transmission.

Carl thought long and hard about just what the paint scheme was to be and he hit it out of the park with the combination of smoke pearl and ruby red. Lending a hand was Jim Moser who handled the pinstripng and graphics on the tank and fender. Finishing off the look of the build was a scant single-sprung solo seat that was plated by Mec-Lec and stitched up by Rich Santana.

Choppers-Motos Custom

¡ Ninguno ! Y eso precisamente las hace tan atractivas.

Another Ducati Chopper

0 comentarios

It appears another custom motorcycle company has entered the Ducati turned Chopper market. A company called Leipers Fork Choppers has not only built a new Ducati based chopper but also is selling the parts individually according to their online website store. The whole chopper craze isn’t really my thing, but I still think it’s pretty sweet that someone it thinking a bit beyond the standard Harley or Indian arena. Props to Leipers for that… And they’ve got some sweet photos too…
